Evening Primrose Family

The Rock Fringe has a unique and special color.  It grows in large groupings near the end of the flower season.  When it sits next to the Sierra Primrose, there is an amazing show of similar but different colors.  Notice the four branches of the stigma indicating that the flower parts are in fours.
California Fuchsia graces both highway 50 and 89 near the Lake.  It is brightly colored in a magnificent orange color near the end of the flower season.
Fireweed announces the end of the flower season.  It is found as far north as Alaska.  The plants are most striking after the blooms fade with reddish stems and cotton puff balls sending the seeds off to new sites.
Gayophytum is a small  inconspicuous member of this generally showy family.  There are several different species all of which are small and delicate. the flowers open white and fade to pink as the day lengthens.
